The results are in from the Open Submissions stage for our New England Year End Poll for Emerging Artists. All of the submissions were ranked by Deli Editors from other scenes and the list of acts that have advanced to our Readers’/Fans’ Poll phase are below. We will also be releasing the list of nominees chosen by our local "scene expert" jurors very soon.

We would like to thank all of the talented artists who submitted. It was our largest Open Submissions pool yet, and certainly a testament to how many rad acts we have in New England.

What’s This?: Darlingside

The key to Darlingside is in their ability to calm without boring. Not to suggest that all their music is slow or quiet, which by many accounts, it isn’t. They have similar dynamics of many of the current “folk-rock” collectives that are over-saturating music these days, but they don’t fall into the traps of these acts. The band’s sweeping sound features phenomenal vocals, crisp instruments and surprising musical turns. There seems to be a bunch of “collectives” in the New England area, but this one is easily one of the best. They will be performing at the 2nd Stage on Friday of the KahBang Festival 2012. Darlingside to Play NYC's Mercury Lounge Friday, May 25

Northampton, MA based string-rock quintet Darlingside is playing at the Mercury Lounge in NYC Friday, May 25.

A creative and innovative group of musicians, Darlingside captures an original sound as they carefully weave together genres of rock, classical, and folk music. Their diverse sound can be attributed to the eclectic array of musical origins: a young classical pianist appearing on NPR; a world traveler studying music in Brazil, Turkey, and Ireland; a touring boy alto and cruise songwriter; a Boston street musician; and a drummer drawing on a mix of rock, celtic, and jazz. Their upcoming debut LP, Pilot Machines (available July 17), is a melodic work that displays the band’s innovative, ambitious style and diverse talents.

The Deli Magazine was born in NYC's Attorney Street in 2004, in the shape of a print issue with a then unknown band on its cover, called Grizzly Bear. Ths NYC blog came in 2005, then the SF one in 2006, and then 9 more in the following years. The Deli is focused on the coverage of emerging bands and solo artists with a 100% local focus - no exceptions!
