Photo Recap: The Deli Philly's 5th Anniverary Bash w/Night Panther, Literature & The Homophones at PhilaMOCA

I just want to thank The Deli staff, my old friend Jersey Dan, the good folks at PhilaMOCA, Night Panther, Literature, The Homphones, our sponsors (Art in the Age, Narragansett, Tito’s Vodka, Spodee Wine and La Colombe) and all who attended for helping to make The Deli Philly’s 5th Anniversary Bash such a magical evening. It was truly the best event to date that I’ve had the honor of putting together, and I will always well up with joy remembering back on that day/night when all the stars aligned as they did and the evening became a crazy blur of happy faces. It was inspiring to say the least. I look forward to doing it again with you next year. And since we had so much fun, don’t be surprised if a Deli-curated music showcase pops up again this spring. Please check out the beautiful photos from the evening’s performances HERE! (Photo by Zach Blum) - Q.D. Tran

Weekend Warrior, October 4 - 6

Howdy!

So it shouldn’t be hard to figure out where The Deli Philly staff will be this weekend. On Saturday, we’ll be dressed in our finest vintage threads and celebrating our 5th anniversary with a major bash at PhilaMOCA. We are truly honored to have the sexified sounds of Night Panther, the jangly, power-pop goodness of Literature, and the wit and warmth of indie popsters The Homophones to help us throw down for this momentous occasion. We’ll also be pre-gaming with a cocktail hour before the music starts, and there will be prizes like passes to a R5 show (sold out or not) awarded for the best vintage outfit that we come across that evening. Special thanks to our event sponsors Art in the Age, NarragansettTito's VodkaSpodee Wine and La Colombe for the tasty beverages. They will be happily consumed.

BTW: I just wanted to say that it’s been so much fun and an honor to watch, cover and be a part of the wonderful things that have been going on these last five years in Philly’s indie music community. I also wanted to thank all the writers, photographers and readers of the site who have contributed to making The Deli Philly what it is today. It could have never been done without you. I came to working with The Deli Magazine as a fan, and I have always thought of it as a fanzine - something for all to take part in. I am proud that tradition still continues to this day. It’s been amazing getting to know many of the talented and generous folks in the trenches helping to make a positive difference locally, which in turn, (I hope) will spread worldwide. I am excited to see/hear what the next five years will bring to our music community.

With so much love!

Come to The Deli Philly's Halloweeniversary Party This Friday at PhilaMOCA!

Oh man - we are getting so pumped for our Halloweeniversary Party this Friday at PhilaMOCA! If you were there last year, then you should know why. Well, this year we have another stellar lineup of bands to keep everyone entertained throughout the evening. Headlining the festivities will be West Philly’s electro-pop wunderkinds GRANDCHILDREN, who will have plenty of rad new material to share with us from their upcoming album as well as old favorites. They’ll be supported by the hauntingly beautiful, introspective sounds of Barrett Lindgren’s GHOST LIGHT, who absolutely rocks live, and the psych-pop candy magic dreams of Andy Molholt’s LASER BACKGROUND, who are guaranteed to bring plenty of the weirdness that we love for Halloween. And we are proud to be importing for you the fuzzy grooves of our very special guests San Francisco’s SIC ALPS. We’ll also have plenty of more treats for you, but you are certainly welcomed to bring some of your own. Will this night rule? Fuck yeah - it will!

The Deli Philly’s Halloweenniversary Partay Deets!

It’s October - our favorite month of the year! Why? Well, it means Halloween, the bestest holiday ever is just around the corner, and it’s also The Deli Philly’s birthday month so we have plenty to celebrate. And we’ll be doing so on Friday, October 26 at PhilaMOCA for our Halloweenniversary Partay! We simply had so much fun dressin’ up and throwin’ down at the old Mad Decent mausoleum last year that we just had to do it again, and we also decided to combine the bash with our anniversary celebration to really make it another night to remember. As always, we’ll be bringing you some fine music acts to keep us all entertained throughout the evening. Who will be gracing the stage this year? Well, we are proud to have experimental electro-acoustic-pop outfit Grandchildren headlining the evening. If you’ve ever caught one of their live performances, then you should already know why you need to come. The ultra-rad West Philly six-piece will have plenty of mind-melting new material as they gear up to release their sophomore full-length album, and old favorites will also be in tow to drive the crowd into a frenzy. Grandchildren will be supported fellow locals Ghost Light, who put out a wonderful EP Awful Feelings earlier this year via Single Girl Married Girl that was our July Album of the Month, and ex-Armchair Andy Molholt’s latest psych-pop project Laser Background, who also recently released their strangely intoxicating self-titled debut EP via UK label Stroll On Records (Ku Klux Glam - the collaboration of Ariel Pink and R. Stevie Moore). Plus as a very special guest and treat (certainly not a trick), kick-ass San Francisco psych rockers Sic Alps (Drag City, Siltbreeze, Slumberland, Woodsist) will also be getting friggin’ weird with us. And of course, we’ll have plenty of party favors to help us all do that. Yeah, it’s going to be a dope time so mark your calendars, punch it in your iPhone or do whatever you need to do to remember to show up!

Much love,
The Deli Staff
