Gingerlys talk about guitar pedals on Delicious Audio

Describing themselves as "pure ear candy," Gingerlys provide catchy and hazy dream pop tunes. The female-fronted, five-piece indie pop band began when guitarist Matt Richards started sharing acoustic demos of his pop songs with his fellow bandmates in his Valley Stream, New York basement. The band's guitarist Matthew Richards recently talked to our sister blog Delicious Audio about the band's sounds and the pedals used to create it, check out the Q&A here

Gingerlys release self-titled debut album, share first video

Gingerlys' self-titled debut album, out on November 17th, showcases a band delivering on the promise of their earlier work. When we last featured their 7" EP “Jumprope” here on The Deli, we were impressed enough with the group's fast paced indie pop. The new work, however, takes everything a step further in both the songwriting and production departments.  Lead track and first video release “Turtledoves” (streaming below) captures that wistful sense of emotion felt on discovering something new and beautiful.  The pacing is quick, with drums clattering underneath an overall catchy melodiousness created by well orchestrated layers of vocals, guitars and keyboards.  Tasty guitar lines emerge into the mix as the dreamy female vocals pull you into a world where “you were never meant to wander.”  The rising pitch of the vocal melody on key lines “I knew you” and “you choose to” will appeal to big dream pop fans (like us). The full album is available for streaming here. - Dave Cromwell

Gingerlys deliver ear candy to Baby's All Right on 02.14

Female-fronted, five-piece indie pop band The Gingerlys began when guitarist Matt Richards started sharing acoustic demos of his pop songs with his fellow bandmates in his Valley Stream, New York basement. Matt's dreamy/shoegazy songwriting inclinations found the perfect match in Jackie M.'s ethereal vocals. The band then recorded their first EP, “Jumprope” with Oliver Ignatius at Mama Coco's Funky Kitchen in Brooklyn and soon started gigging in and around the city. Describing themselves as "pure ear candy," Gingerlys provide catchy and hazy dream pop tunes. So, this year, for St. Valentine's day, at Baby's All Right, instead of getting your sweetheart a boring box of candy, you have the option of taking him/her out to hear some candy. If you do so, make sure to let us know how that plays out! - Lea Phillips

Lots of noisy/dreamy emerging NYC bands at Baby's All Right tomorrow afternoon (01.09)

Our friends at OhMyRockness are organizing, together with and at Baby's All Right, a solid afternoon of local bands on Saturday 01.09 (tomorrow). We blogged about most of them recently so we'll let their music speak in this Minilogs compilation! In the picture, Dreamcrusher.

NYC Shoegazers Gingerlys play Palisades tomorrow (08.08)

The combined forces of Brooklyn and Long Island deliver impressive results with the Gingerlys' debut 7" EP “Jumprope,” out on Shelflife records just about one year ago. The title track (streaming) establishes essential band parameters featuring pitch-bended vintage keyboard hooks and dreamy female vocals. Softer story telling verses give way to an angular, syncopated chorus, whose urgency bring to mind fellow Brooklyn dreampoppers Field Mouse. “Summer Cramps” comes quicker via bass and clean guitar at a Cure/”Inbetween Days” pace, before polyphonic synths establish the dominant hook. “Better Hearts” surges forward with similarly sweet vocals and an optimistic feeling that slots closer to The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. The lyrical content suggests all may not be entirely well, as they’ve “seen better hearts,” and “you don’t know me.” Closing track “Set You Off” evokes early era (pre Loveless) My Bloody Valentine with tandem male/female vocals and a light, airy vibe. Acoustic guitar driven, keyboards provide traditional pad backing, with electric guitar establishing the melodic hook. Gingerlys play tomorrow (Saturday August 8) at Palisades in Brooklyn on a stacked bill that also features Pill, Honduras and BAMBARA. - Dave Cromwell
