Radiator Hospital Returns at PhilaMOCA May 11

For the last handful of years, Radiator Hospital, a.k.a. Sam Cook-Parrott, has been consistently rockin' the Philly DIY scene’s socks. Cook-Parrott has struck a good musical balance between widely accessible power pop and raw DIY twee punk. His tone is breezy but serenely emotive, falling on the twee scale much closer to Teenage Fanclub’s broad, sweeping sound than the forceful, closed-chord tunes of Talulah Gosh. This evening at PhilaMOCA will be Radiator Hospital's first performance in Philly since November so don't miss out on his uniquely charming pop songs. He'll also finally have in tow copies of his split LP with Great Thunder, titled The Great Thunder Radiator Hospital Wedding Album. You can catch him sharing the bill tonight with Scotland’s The Spook School, a band with the effervescent energy to match Go Sailor, Bent Shapes, the even janglier version of The Feelies, and Littler, the little twee band with big guitars and bigger feelings. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 7pm, $5-$7, All Ages - Bryce Woodcock

New Music Video: "Slippery" - Littler

Below is a new music video from Littler for their track "Slippery," off Of Wandering. The lo-fi production was directed and edited by band member Dan Colanduno. It plays out like an homage to LaCroix Sparkling Water and flowers. Littler will be performing this Friday, April 29 at Underground Arts with Dilly Dally and Fat White family.

Weekend Warrior, April 1 - 3

Michelle Zuaner (Little Big League, Post Post) is celebrating the debut label release, Pychopomp (Yellow K Records), from her solo project Japanese Breakfast at Ortlieb’s tonight. The new venture shows a radically contrasting side to Zauner as a songwriter through its use of experimental textures, pads, and loops. Compared to the dynamic energy of the guitar-driven Little Big League, Japanese Breakfast is airy and subdued with sonic nuances. The synth work brings to mind bands like Small Black or Brothertiger, but the songs have more of the carefree charm of The Sundays or Saint Etienne. Joining Japanese Breakfast this evening will be Littler, the fuzzy, poppy, punky band that sounds like the projected approximation of Veruca Salt in the universe where they subsequently became a twee band. Myrrias will also be also performing, bringing a psychedelic slant to the bill, with dark atmospherics and droning, interweaving melodies. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. 3rd St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - Bryce Woodcock

Littler Record Release Show at Goldy's March 24

With their debut album Of Wandering officially being released tomorrow via Birdtapes (but you can stream it now over at The Fader), Littler will be performing a celebratory record release show this evening at Goldy's. The quartet trudges through the perplexing uncertainty of transitioning into adulthood, delving into the daily dilemmas with an open-book approach to narrative lyricism. The band finds a middle ground between steady-paced melodies and agitated release of aggression. Tonight, they’ll be joined by surging power-pop duo and tourmates Slow Animal, while garage-pop quartet Marge will also be in celebratory mode, marking their latest release. NYC grunge duo Giant Peach rounds this bill into form. Goldy's, 723 Chestnut St. - 3FL, $5-$7, 7pm , All Ages – Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, March 18 - 20

Tonight is the Planned Parenthood fundraiser at First Unitarian Church, featuring some of the most rippin’ female-fronted bands the Northeast has to offer. Screaming Females, a band who is impossible to describe without some variation of the word “shred,” is headlining the event along with Cayetana, the indie punk trio whose sincerity will mend your soul, Amanda X, the post-something power-gaze band with a flair for fuzzy melody, Dark Thoughts, who play so fast they make pacemakers combust, and Littler, who will open the night with a healthy dosage of grunge-twee feels. If you have secured a ticket to the sold-out event, you should know that the screaming deal you got on it was in order to promote inclusivity; if you want to support PP further, then there will be an area in the venue to donate those extra bills. All money raised at the event will go to Planned Parenthood Southeastern PA and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and all the rockin’ tunes and memories are yours to keep. First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut St., 7pm, Sold Out, All Ages - Bryce Woodcock
