Rigsketball Musicfest 2016: Where Music and Basketball Meet

Rigsketball is notorious out here for a reason. Starting back in 2011 by everyone's favorite mohawked musician and talented And And And drummer Bim Ditson, Rigsketball pins 32 local bands against each other in numerous rounds of basketball narrowing each down until an obvious winner prevails.

The last rounds of the Rigsketball tournament are tomorrow starting at 2pm with a world record setting (Guiness Book of World Records officials will be there to prove this) game of H-O-R-S-E and the final game round starts at 7pm. Accompanying the heated game rounds will be performances by nine Portland artists.

Music begins at 4:20pm (hah!) with two different stages. The Rigsketball Musicfest 2016 is free, all-ages and sure to be a damn good time. Peep the lineup times below and be sure to come on down and chill outside of Water Ave. Bunk Bar to watch all the action.

5:00pm - Laura Palmer's DEATH PARADE

5:40pm - FOG FATHER

6:20pm - Ah God

7:00pm - Rigsketball 2016 FINALS

8:20pm - The Lower 48

Hungry Skinny The Lower 48 and Mars and the Massacre Play BOTH - 3/19

The San Francisco based garage rock band, Hungry Skinny will be playing Bottom of the Hill with The Lower 48 and Mars and the Massacre. You're not going to want to miss this show! Hungry Skinny was formed in San Francisco's tenderloin district in 2011. They have recorded and released 3 EP's with Light Rail Studios; "Ain't Walkin' You Home", "Nobody Cares", and "Birth & A Murder".

“If the Beatles and Jack White gave birth to a musical baby, it would sound something like The Lower 48 – and yes, the band is just as ferocious as one would imagine, as we discovered in our interview. The trio’s multi-instrumental thick wall of sound is marvelous because the lead singer isn’t just a lead singer, the bassist doesn’t only play bass, and the drummer doesn’t only drum; they all carry the weight of at least two players effortlessly…”

Mars and The Massacre is an LA-based Psychedelic/Garage Rock band originally hailing from Indianapolis, IN. Formed in early 2013, the group of martians has already gained a strong following in Los Angeles, being known particularly for their entrancing and unpredictable live shows.

Preview: The Lower 48 at Doug Fir 12.19

It wouldn’t be wise to end the year without a solid night of rock and soul. This Friday, the Doug Fir hosts a pre-Christmas eggnogger with some of the hottest bands on the circuit. The night starts with Moon By Youand their psychedelic surf-soul then gravitates to some bluesy Motown soul with local nine piece Brownish Black. Continuing the festivus will be The Lower 48. Their sweet mix of folk and vintage pop combined with slightly grungy rhythms and soft vocal harmonies has come together to create the Lower 48’s own brand of soul. They are returning from a rainy California tour and are putting on a party to celebrate another rainy, Portland Christmas. Tickets are $10 and the show starts at 9PM.
