Just when I was starting to think Portland music was winding down after an eventful summer, our friends at KZME put together an amazing Portland-infused lineup for the inaugural Stumptown Music Fest. This Saturday, Alhambra Theatre (formerly Mt. Tabor) will showcase 8 bands that have all had incredible past years and have made a sincere impact on the Portland scene. The mainly folky lineup starts 5PM and is slated to go on until 12:30, giving you a full night of amazing sets. Beginning acts will include the avant garde sounds of Billy Goat and Like a Villain. Sets by Portland’s vintage-pop heroes, the Lower 48 will be featured as well as PDX pop queen Sara Jackson Holman. The neo-folk sounds this city is known for will be diligently represented by the likes of Alameda and Bike Thief and the night will end back with the soulful rhythms laid down by Minden and the dance rock duo, Dresses. All of these bands had amazing accomplishments in 2013 and will mostly likely follow the trend in this next year. So come on out to support a night of Portland rock. - Colin Hudson

Portland’s energetic folk rockers, The Lower 48, have developed their sound into vintage rock and roll with soul and have a new album to prove it. Drawing away from laid-back acoustic songs, the band has taken on a '60s pop twist (somewhere along the lines of Buddy Holly and the Rolling Stones) and kept the harmonious vocal lining that places The Lower 48 on top of the curve in this city’s scene. Aside from a premier sound, they know stage performance well. All three members of the band move around, trade instruments, and the drummer has even been known to stand up and blow on the trumpet. The new album was released in stores this past Tuesday and the party for the album is at the Doug Fir on Friday. The Doug Fir is full of 60s aroma and tomorrow night will be no exception as bluesy rockers Tango Alpha Tango are on the bill as well. - Colin Hudson

The Deli Portland has cooked up something special for you this Friday night at the fantastic Mt. Tabor Theater. The Lower 48 will be rocking the concert hall with their captivating harmonies and vintage tones alongside the progressive indie rock compositions of Eidolons, and Bike Thief’s moving post-folk anthems. In the Lounge, The North Wind will be putting on a performance of epic proportions supported by Soft Shadows’ hypnotic brand of shoegaze and the enchanting dream-pop of Appendixes. The show starts at 9pm sharp, come on out and experience some of the most delicious music that Portland has to offer.

In the past year, The Lower 48 have built a significant amount of momentum in Portland’s music scene and for good reason. Their music is rich with soothing vocal harmonies, tight instrumentation and a captivating presentation that has been winning over audiences at some of the city’s most prominent venues. Their folk pop gems are sure to build them a place among the most recognized acts in Portland over the course of the next year.
