Burger Boogaloo moves to spooky dates

In light of the current closures the 11th annual Burger Boogaloo festival just announced it will be moving their July dates to Halloween weekend to best accommodate the artists on this year’s phat lineup. Host John Waters shares, “A virus may scare the punk rock world out of Oakland in July but we’ll scare it right back on Halloween weekend! Trick or treat, we can’t be beat! Burger Boogaloo 2020: a Monster Mash to top them all!” That’s the attitude we like to hear! Playing their first show in 25 years, we’re thrilled Bikini Kill is taking the stage, along with Belgian super punk star Plastic Bertrand for their first ever Bay Area show. Oakland favorites like Shannon Shaw (who's playing a solo set, though we’re wondering if any of the Clams might sneak on stage?) and The Younger Lovers. Secure your Burger Boogaloo tickets now, and if you’re already snagged ‘em, all tickets will still be honored. Let’s all plunk something to look forward to on the calendar for October 31 and November 1st and start thinking of your costumes while you're at it. -Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

Announcing the 2020 Burger Boogaloo Lineup

Today the folks at Burger Boogaloo announced the 2020 line up with a nice holiday ticket special. The Oakland punk festival takes place again at Mosswood Park in Oakland and will feature our beloved host, Mr. John Waters. This year's lineup is full of some oldies and goodies. After not having played a Bay Area show in 25 years Bikini Kill brings their feminist punk to the evening stage, alongside folks like San Francisco punk legends Flipper. Sweet and solid Oakland cuties The Younger Lovers are coming along and they're worth the trip right there. The delightful Plastic Bertrand is gracing our good ol' fashioned Ameican stage and let’s hope he plays a little “Hula Hoop,” baby. Stay tuned for more on the festival and in the meantime, please practice your hula hooping. -Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

Showcase Alert: Throwin' Bo's at The Elbo Room (4.5) ft. Half Stack, The Band Ice Cream, and The Younger Lovers

The Deli SF is excited to announce that from the same people that brought you the monthly Milk Was A Bad Choice showcase, comes Throwin’ Bo’s—a new local showcase at the Elbo Room, hosted on the first Thursday of every month. For everyone who feels like they hang out at the same bar and see the same people every day, this is the event for you.

The first installment is approaching quickly on April 5th, featuring the psych-influenced, jangle-folk of Oakland rockers Half Stack, the fast-paced alt-rock of San Francisco-based The Band Ice Cream, and a headlining performance by none other than Oakland mainstay The Younger Lovers (streaming below). When we say the lineup is stacked, we aren’t kidding around.

This event is 21+ and will cost $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Anyone interested can RSVP on Facebook. - Lilly Milman

The Younger Lovers Quaaludes Bad Daddies and Yi Play the Hemlock Tavern TONIGHT

If one thing's for sure, we at the Deli Magazine San Francisco can't get enough of Quaaludes and The Younger Lovers. Quaaludes played our first Deli sponsored event of the season, so we were thrilled when we heard that The Younger Lovers, Quaaludes, Bad Daddies and Yi would be playing a show at the Hemlock Tavern tonight.

Yi is an Oakland based band that plays jagged-sounding punk. Recently, they released a track from their upcoming album, Crying called "Going Dumb." It has the perfect amount of fuzz and noise. Bad Daddies is an East Bay band that plays loud and fast punk. Expect a new 7-inch from the band on Negative Fun Records coming in June! And next is Quaaludes - this girl band plays a mixture of riot grrrl, no wave and grunge and are known for putting on a raucous show! And last but not least are The Younger Lovers, an Oakland based band that features Gravy Train!!! alum Brontez Purnell. Playing a form of fast and snotty lo-fi, be sure not to miss out on this show! -Erin Dage

The Younger Lovers Play The Knockout with Half Blast and No Bone TONIGHT

Tonight, the Oakland based pop-centric band, The Younger Lovers will be joining Half Blast and No Bone for a night of gritty punk bliss at The Knockout in San Francisco.

No Bone, a riot grrrl band from San Francisco will open the show. This band draws influence from the great riot grrrl bands of yore such as Bratmobile, Bikini Kill and Babes In Toyland. Be sure to catch them at next month's Deli Magazine SF Sponsored event with Midnite Snaxxx, The Shanghais, Quaaludes and Bestfriend Grrlfriend on March 8th!

The new San Francisco punk band, Half Blast will also be performing as they value power chords, but posess a pop edge. The band's calling card is that the members are all grizzled veterans of the Bay Area music scene, having played in bands such as Ex-Boyfriends, Muñecas, Lucy Stoners, Zbörnak, Beard Summit, Cypher in the Snow, The Near Dark, Crowns on 45, Pinky Swear and Frozen Chicken Patties.

And headlining is The Younger Lovers. This awesome band recently made waves with their latest album, Sugar In My Pocket, which is out now on Southpaw Records. Younger Lovers seeks to combine poetic, Television Personalities-style banter with '60s pop flair. Both styles merge to form a lo-fi style that is unique and totally recognizable. - Erin Dage
