New Track: "22" - Soul Glo

THE N**** IN ME IS ME, the forthcoming album from Soul Glo, is slated to arrive on June 7 via SRA Records. Its opening track, “22,” barrels forward at a frenetic clip, releasing thoughtful lyricism in a raw, eruptive form. That avalanche of free-flowing vocals and unabashed instrumentation cultivates a quick, impactful punch. You'll be able to feel the sting in-person, when the band performs at Break Free Fest, which will be taking place from May 25-27 at The Rotunda. (Photo by Luke Mouradian)

Blues punks The Sweet Things play The Bowery Electric on 05.24

Playing punk music makes sense for folks hailing from the East Village, but what about blending it with good old blues rock? Well, The Sweet Things formed in 2015 with the intent to deliver precisely that sound. Drawing inspiration from ‘70s arena rock monsters like The Rolling Stones, the band compounds blues elements with each member’s previous punk rock backgrounds. Screaming guitars at the start of the group’s latest single “Almost Faded” blend excellently with deft keys that would make Chuck Leavell proud. The fuzzy bass and the powerful drums drive the song forward at full steam and give it the edge that makes it contemporary. The single announces their May 24th debut album In Borrowed Shoes, On Borrowed Time and the band is gearing up for a tour of the U.K. starting in June. The party is just getting started for this group of new yorkers, don't miss the local leg at The Bowery Electric on May 24 - Rene Cobar

Weekend Warrior, May 10 - 12

Spring is in full bloom, and that means a day of music and BBQing is in order. This Saturday, the Haus of Yarga will be hosting its BBYQ (where vegan options will be available as well). Fourteen acts are slated to appear at the annual event that will be starting in the early afternoon. The brutal, blitzing punk of Dialer will roar and menacingly rip, integrating synth & saxophone. Trash Knife will also immediately jump into high gear, sprinting in a tenaciously catchy, shredding circumstance. Unleashing a subdued slacker vibe that can ramp up in a moment’s notice, while escalating into heavier, fuzz-forward tones, the trio of Apt A weaves between genres as internalized monologues are released to the outside world. John Galm, a.k.a. Bad Heaven LTD, will deliver some mesmerizing folk that wraps you in its spellbinding words as the instruments comfortably warp around you. And to add yet another layer of intrigue, Shamir is also listed as a special guest. – Michael Colavita

New Track: "Cold Hands" - Broke Body

A punk-psych hybrid, "Cold Hands," the debut single from the trio of Broke Body, is out now via Good How Are You Records. Propelled by its backend and vocals that cut through by proximity, the recording creates an air of mystery. The dichotomy of free-floating yet aggressive vibes provides an intriguing perspective. "Cold Hands" will be featured on the band’s forthcoming EP Bleed.
