Boyscott Releases "Goosebumps" Cassette

Cassette-heads rejoice! The young bloods in Boyscott, the Nashville based surf rock group, released a new full-length cassette aptly titled Goosebumps, on 11.17, via Pizza Tape Records. Deft guitar tones and sweet male-female vocal exchanges set the tone of a beguiling debut reminiscent of The Drums or Beach Fossils.

Comparisons aside, where such similar debuts maintained a one-dimensional approach, Boyscott’s Goosebumps offers more versatility, with songs like “Blonde Blood” and “Nova Scotia 500” establishing surf-rock sensibilities, only to be purposefully challenged by the worldly “Marco Polo.”

Other songs simply stun in both tone and composition, none more notably than “Killer Whale,” presumably highlighting an awkward dichotomy between two people recently acquainted. All in all, Goosebumps provides a proper introduction to one of Nashville’s soon-to-be preeminent surf rock groups, Boyscott. -Sean McHugh

Connecticut slacker rock revivalists Stove release debut album "Is Stupider" on Friday (11.20) + plays The Outer Space on 11.23

Connecticut act Stove's guitar-fuzzed songs may fall under the genre of slacker rock revival but they emit a pure passion that is hardly lacksadaisical. On tracks such as "Lowt-Ide Fins" (streaming below) off its debut album 'Is Stupider,' singer/multi-instrumentalist Steve Hartlett coolly yet fiercely sets scenes of longing against walls of stormy strings and fast drums, a pining eking through the chaos. Like the subtly involving last track off Mac Demarco's 'Another One,' these songs move the listener with their very mellowness. Stove will release 'Is Stupider' this Friday (11.20) and will play The Outer Space in Hamden, CT on 11.23.- Zach Weg

Video Premiere: Royal Jelly - The Old Bay Bridge

The cool thing about the Bay Area´s local bands, particularly the artists who are surviving in San Francisco right now, is that they tend to be very committed to their home base. A great example of local artists paying homage to the changing times in their city (for better or for worse) is Royal Jelly Jive. This great vintage swing-soul band has written a song and shot a video to commemorate the destruction of a part of the Old Bay Bridge.

The video was shot at the Embarcadero in honor of this special occasion with a song they wrote inspired by the bridge itself... aptly named, "The Old Bay Bridge". Check out the video and support local artists who are keeping their head above water in the San Francisco Bay Area (literally and figuratively)!

Free Download: Friends of Tricycle Records Compilation

It is finally here! Tricycle Records has released the 5th installment of their local music compilation entitled, Friends of Tricycle Records 5! We really like how TR extended their submission invitation to local artists who are not on their official roster, featuring great artists like Lemme Adams, Brasil, The New Up and Analog Dream.

Enjoy this free compilation. It is a celebration of local music and such a great contribution during a time where record labels are all about profit.

Gloriously tense noise rock trio Spray Paint releases 2nd LP of 2015: "Dopers"

The world of music lovers is divided in two categories: those who love pretty songs, and those who seek aural insanity. For the latter, we recommend Spray Paint, an Austin based trio whose sole purpose seems to be creating the most relentlessly tense music conceivable - edgy stuff! The group is also very prolific, having released five LPs in total, two this year alone, the latter (entitled "Doper") while touring the US. Fully dedicated to the cause, that's how you find your audience.
