Combo Chimbita perfect tropical futurism on "Ahomale", out 05.03

Calling their music "cumbia" would only scratch the surface of Combo Chimbita’s material. On their forthcoming album Ahomale, out May 3rd, the New-York-via-Colombia group turns the entire genre, and all its preconceptions, on its head. Weaving their fondness for psychedelia, metal and punk into a sound they call “tropical futurism”, this quartet creates a vehicle through which they explore the complexities of the Afro-Latin diaspora, and with which they imagine a stunning and prophetic destiny. Not only is their musical intent ambitious, Combo Chimbita has the musical chops to carry it through - the songs on Ahomale are driven, vivacious, and uncompromising. Check out their first single “Brillo Más Que El Oro (La Bala Apuntándome)” below, and don’t miss their show at Elsewhere on May 4th. -Sunny Betz

New Little Strike EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Electro-folk artist Tamar Dart, a.k.a. Little Strike, recently shared her new EP Beyond Things. Dart’s vocals exhibit a gentle, pensive nature, even while addressing complex societal issues - both from a micro and macro perspective. Brought along for the journey, there’s a peacefulness in the intricate atmosphere of production, which retains a feathery quality despite its complexities. Putting personal poetry into organic motion, these songs appeal to a universal audience.

Kojo Easy Damptey - New Soul Album/Single "Giants"

Originally from Ghana; Kojo Easy Damptey combines soul, funk, hip hop and I hear some jazz influences in his latest track “Giants”. This is the title track from his upcoming album which to him “builds on the tradition of resistance and resilience that people of color around the world have shown in the fight to combat the ill effects of colonization.” “Giants” is available now on bandcamp! – Kris Gies
