Radiation City plays Deli show in Austin with Reptar and Body Language

Upon offering the world "The Hands That Take You (Tender Loving Empire)," a retro-infused pop gem, 2011 found Radiation City in a debut breakout year that couldn't be stopped. While the full account of accolades is too long to list here, special highlights include packed showcases at CMJ in the middle of a national tour, a Daytrotter session, a video premiere on IFC and a slew of adoring press from across the country including several nods on notable "Year End" lists including the Deli Portland's. Consumate musicians all the way through, show-goers shouldn't be surprised to hear excellent covers of anything from Outkast's "Ms. Jackson" to Etta James' "At Last" at Radiation City's numerous SXSW dates - including the Deli's own on Thursday March 15 at The Gypsy Lounge, with Reptar, Body Language, The Stepkids and many more. Exciting times for Brooykln's neo-soul act Ava Luna, who are featured in the current winter issue of The Deli and just released their sophomore full length "Ice Level". NYC Bands to see in Austin: Yellow Ostrich

We gave a lot of attention to avant-rootsy group Yellow Ostrich in 2011 - the band enjoyed a couple of Deli features and headlined one of our CMJ 2011 shows (full disclosure, they would have been on the cover of our fall 2011 issue if they could have played our show at Pianos, but they had other commitments). After a very good reception of the debut album, this prolific band begins 2012 with a new release entitled "Strange Land," which expands their sonic vocabulary in a direction that's at once more electric and orchestral, with the enlistment of horn player Jon Natchez. If you are going to Austin next week, you'll probably see them live even if you aren't trying to, since they are playing 9 shows in 5 days! Otherwise you can catch them in NYC at Mercury on April 12.

The Vandelles tour to SXSW

Having been called "Technicolor Noir", The Vandelles' tunes are reminiscent of 60's surf music with a modern psych-rock edge, heavily relying on an insane amount of fuzz and reverb. The band organized a last minute trip to the South West, involving 3 shows in Austin during SXSW on March 16, 17 and 18 - more info about dates and location here. Check out this stunning video of the song "Lovely Weather" they released in 2012. (Photo by Victoria Renard)- (as posted in The Deli's Open Blog - post your band's entries, videos, and Mp3s here).
